CONTIGUITY

The geographical freedom or narrative connectivity afforded to players in a particular environment. Contiguous environments allow movement freely within their borders, while nodal environments are split into discrete, controlled pieces. Similarly, a contiguous narrative occurs in one lump, like a film, rather than in segmented pieces, like an ongoing TV show.

“Despite what most likely constitute level gates and loading protocols behind the scenes, Jak and Daxter gives the outward impression of a completely contiguous environment.”
