OPACITY

When a player is unable to see the cause and effect relationship between their actions and the results. This can be due to poor design–unclear results, arcane actions, flimsy and confusing motivations–but can also be included deliberately. Opacity often causes players to feel confused, uncertain, or that the results of their actions are random, which can work for or against the experience.

“Half the enjoyment in Beseige comes from its coy opacity. Machine parts have seemingly simple functions, but you can never truly know what your contraption will do until you experiment a little.”
