PLAYER-CENTRISM
Prioritisation of the player in game design or interpretation. Game worlds which are fundamentally designed to be traversed, conquered and beaten by the player character or role are one example. Player-centric designs often have player characters whose success (or very existence) is primarily for the entertainment or enrichment of players.
“The Secret World lets you play a role in virtually every important event that could possibly happen in its universe. It’s this sort of standardised MMO design which, ironically, most starkly highlights games’ player-centric tendencies.”
